On Thursday, 1st October 2020 the Seniors Section hosted a “just for fun” Ryder Cup style event “Seniors” versus “Par 3 Club”.
There were 32 participants, 16 on each team.
The previous two times that this event took place it was over 18 holes on the main course, but given the time of year the course condition, especially on the back nine, is at risk of being difficult to play for some seniors. We therefore decided to try a new format this year of Front 9 holes on the Par 3 course and front 9 holes on the Main course.
This format worked very well apart from some debate over handicap allowances. For this first time we kept it simple and used full main course handicaps. This seemed to work well but we will review it.
A total of 12 matches, therefore 12 Points up for grabs.
- 4 matches – Four Ball Betterball (pairs matchplay)
- 8 matches – Singles Matchplay
The Seniors covered the cost of the after match meals (Pie, Peas & Chips).
The Par 3 Club sponsored the four Nearest The Pin prizes.
Nearest The Pin winners :
LEE Course 6th – Derrick Goodman
LEE Course 9th – Terry Crofts
SEELEY Course 6th – Trevor Holmes
SEELEY Course 8th – Beresford Bell
COMPETITION RESULT : Seniors – 4 1/2 Points / Par 3 Club – 7 1/2 Points
It is worth noting that the 8 singles matches were 4 Points each. It was the 4 Pairs matches that the Par 3 Club dominated, scoring 3 1/2 Points (out of 4).
Thank you to everyone involved in the day. See you again next year!
